LIVE WEBINAR

Join Castle Microwave & Modelithics for our live webinar on "When S-parameters Are Not Enough: How Better Models Accelerate High Frequency Design Success!"

For decades measured S-parameter data files have been the most commonly available “model” for representing passive devices, and often also active devices, in the microwave industry. S-parameter files, while useful, ubiquitous, and very portable, only represent the way a specific device behaves in the test fixture environment and test conditions used for the characterization. Physically motivated equivalent circuit models, properly developed, can be set up to scale high-frequency parasitic influenced behaviour accurately with part-value, substrate properties, and other parameters, such as solder pad dimensions. Also, S-parameters are often not enough when designing with active devices where, in addition to being affected by the same substrate-and solder pad dependent parasitics, often requires prediction of noise and non-linearity behaviour. Designers using Modelithics models regularly report first pass or more rapid design success and have come to rely on the vast array of highly scalable models for passives as well as noise and non-linear models for active devices in the Modelithics COMPLETE Library. In addition, designers can simulate coupling effects that may occur between closely spaced components and between components and their surrounding environment using Modelithics 3D EM models along with a full-wave electromagnetic simulator.

Frontgrade specialises in microwave and electro-mechanical rotating devices, including RF rotary joints, gear-driven and direct-drive pedestals and RF rotating subsystems.

Frontgrade has produced thousands of designs for rotary joints, the vital link between the stationary and movable parts of a radar or microwave communication system that allows signals to be transmitted between the antenna and ground with little or no distortion.

Thanks to many recent technological advances, rotary joints are highly reliable components for space applications whose advantages include unlimited rotation, long life and high reliability, excellent RF performance and low torque.

Frontgrade is continuously making improvements to its existing rotary joint hardware for increased frequency bandwidth, power handling or mechanical improvements. They are able to repair and refurbish multiple ATC rotary joints simultaneously as well as the technical capability of repairing other manufacturers’ rotary joints. They can also easily achieve design changes, upgrades and retrofit operations due to the breadth of its rotary joint portfolio.

Frontgrade products are used extensively in government and industry applications ranging from submarine periscopes and shipboard avionics to ground-based, vehicle-mounted, airborne and space-based systems.
